American Black Tern Chlidonias niger surinamensis

The first record for the North Sea area concerns a 1st winter bird which was present between 5th and 27th November 1996. It foraged at low tide among the masses of Black-headed Gulls Larus ridibundus between the fishing-port of Stellendam and along the sluices of the Haringvliet Stormsurge Barrier on the coast of The Netherlands.
